1st Hove Girls Brigade

History
1st Hove Girls Brigade Company was enrolled in February 1907 and has been part of the church since then.  The aim of the Girls Brigade is "to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and through self control reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life"
 
Regular Meetings
Girls, from the age of 5, meet each Tuesday in term time and participate in a variety of activities throughout the year, towards badges.  For example,
Spiritual - The Life of Jesus, New Testament Stories, Bible Drama,
Physical - Team Games, Swimming, Rhythmic Movement
Educational - Art, Cookery, Music, Singing
Service - First Aid, Helping at Home, Accident Prevenation, Fair Trade
 
Other Activities
   
Other regular activities include, Company Camp in the summer months, Pantomime Performances, Display Performances, Carol Singing, Competitions within the Girls Brigade South Downs District
 
Uniform
Throughout the history of GB, there have been numerous styles of uniform, but all have centred around the GB Crest, which is recognised worldwide.  Our current uniform at 1st Hove, consists of Blue Polo Shirt, with our specially designed Centenary Logo, and navy or black trousers.
 
Leader Training
As part of the programme for girls aged 14 and over, we run a Young Leaders Training opportunity.  A training weekend is run by our District, and Young Leaders are also encouraged to help in the younger sections of the company.
 
Duke of Edinburgh Award
An optional programme is strongly encouraged for girls aged 14 or over.  This is for participation in Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke Of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
